Chiclete pode detectar malária

Eu quero um de malária e um de doença de Chagas, por favor.

Nada de agulhas ou hospitais. Cientistas da Universidade da California, em Los Angeles, estão desenvolvendo um chiclete que detecta a presença da malária – atualmente feita através do exame de sangue.

A ideia é incorporar nanopartículas magnéticas na goma de mascar que só são ativadas pela presença de anticorpos presentes na saliva do paciente doente. Depois de mascado por alguns minutos, o chiclete é colocado sobre uma tira de papel onde a proteína da malária combina-se com as nanopartículas da goma gerando uma listra fina. Se ela não aparecer, é sinal de que o paciente não está contaminado. A pesquisa ainda está em desenvolvimento, mas os cientistas já procuram identificar outras proteínas presentes na saliva humana que auxiliem no diagnóstico de mais doenças.
