Olhos de mosca são bons para captar energia solar

Pesquisadores da Penn State University, nos Estados Unidos, descobriram que o formato dos olhos das moscas é perfeito para captação de energia solar. As córneas das moscas varejeiras, aquelas mais nojentas de todas, são os melhores, pois eles são compostos de diversas lentes côncavas de formato hexagonal. Eles captam muito mais luz do que uma simples superfície plana.

Antes que a Sociedade Protetora das Moscas Varejeiras apareça para protestar, já explicamos: os cientistas não planejam criar milhares de mosquinhas para tirar os olhos delas e fazer placas solares com eles. Foram retiradas as córneas de apenas nove moscas e, com elas, foi feito um molde. As pesquisas avançam agora para descobrir um meio de reproduzir esses diminutos olhinhos em larga escala, para produção industrial.

A mesma universidade que está desenvolvendo esta tecnologia com as moscas também estuda as asas de borboletas para descobrir como criar cor sem utilizar pigmentos.
