Poucas coisas animam tanto a gente quanto a possibilidade de recriar o estado inicial do Universo dentro de um túnel de 6 bilhões de dólares. Essa é a ideia geral dos criadores do Grande Colisor Hadron, ou Large Hadron Collider, em inglês. A gente já falou sobre o LHC várias vezes aqui na Super, de tão maluca e genial que é a ideia. Se o projeto for pra frente, a ciência vai poder entender melhor várias teorias criadas sobre o Universo, como a composição da matéria escura e a origem dos buracos negros.
Mas isso só vai acontecer se as baguetes não estragarem os planos.
Pois é. Nessa semana, bastou cair um pedacinho de pão dentro do circuito do LHC para que o gigantesco acelerador de partículas desligasse completamente. O pior é que nem dá para culpar aquele um funcionário desavisado por ter deixado cair o sanduíche de mortadela na máquina: de acordo com o jornal The Register, o desligamento do LHC é obra de um passarinho, coitado, que perdeu seu almoço lá dentro.
O farelinho causou um superaquecimento no setor 81 da máquina, que deve ficar em manutenção por algum tempo depois do “incidente”. Para os responsáveis sobre o projeto, é normal que pequenos transtornos como esse ocorram de vez em quando, por causa do tamanho do acelerador.
O LHC já viu dias mais negros neste ano: em setembro, quando foi reativado, o circuito elétrico da máquina deu pau e destruiu centenas de metros de ímãs internos. O retorno à experiência estava prevista para o fim deste mês, mas o “bombardeio de pão” deve atrasar os planos.
Bons tempos em que farelos de pão e passarinhos só atrapalhavam João e Maria…
