Hoje é o Dia da Velocidade. Sabia que os cascos das tartarugas são uma compensação por elas serem tão lentas?

Se as tartarugas dependessem de sua velocidade para sobreviver ao ataque de um predador, elas não viveriam nem um dia de sua longa vida. Para compensar a lerdeza, os quelônios foram dotados daquele resistente casco. Assim, quando percebem algum perigo, basta se esconder debaixo da armadura.

A carapaça é composta por uma camada de osso e a mais superficial é feita de proteínas duríssimas. Toda essa parafernália é presa às vértebras das tartarugas.
